Vermilion Lakes

Vermilion Lakes

Vermilion Lakes are located on the outskirts of the town of Banff. There are iron-oxide deposits near the lakes and Vermilion, which is a pigment originally made from the mineral cinnabar, has a similar colour as these deposits. The lakes were also called “Kianiskkoti” by the Native Americans meaning “chain of lakes joined together”.
