Kananaskis

Kananaskis, one of my absolute favorite places on the planet, is located in Alberta, Canada in the Canadian Rockies near Banff National Park. This lake, named Upper Kananaskis Lakes, lies in the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in the very heart of the region.
I had the idea for this image in my mind for over a year, but I had to wait for the conditions to be just perfect. I wanted the water to not be frozen (otherwise it would be just a big empty area) and yet I wanted the mountains to be snow covered. Everything came together on one day in November when I made this image. As a bonus, there was this bank of low cloud above the water that really added to the atmosphere.
