Peyto Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

This iconic lake in Banff National Park was named after William “Bill” Peyto. After arriving in Canada in 1886, Bill homesteaded near the town of Cochrane. Initially, Bill worked for the railway, hunted, trapped and prospected, and finally in 1893-1894, he signed up as an apprentice guide. Bill went on to eventually become one of the best guides in the Canadian Rockies.
